Tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charitable organizations in the Foundation’s service area, namely Columbia, Garfield and Walla Walla counties in Washington, and Umatilla County in Oregon. In limited cases, other charitable entities are considered at the Foundation’s sole discretion.
The majority of funds available are designated for use by organizations serving Walla Walla County. A smaller portion is available for grants to organizations outside of Walla Walla County who fall within the Foundation's service area (see above). Grant awards generally range from $1,000 to $10,000, with the average award being $3,000.
Successful proposals will receive grant acceptance paperwork by late October. Grant acceptance paperwork must be signed and returned to the foundation before grant funds can be issued to your organization. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified via mail by mid-October.
Grant applications are reviewed by the Foundation’s Grant Review Committee, which makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees for final determination. Grants are typically awarded for one-year periods.
Grants are directed across the domains of a healthy community: Arts and Culture, Basic Needs, Economy, Education, Environment, Health and Wellness, and Neighborhoods and Communities. Grants usually will not be made for annual fund drives, field trips, travel to or in support of conferences. No grants will be made for sectarian religious purposes nor to influence legislation or elections. Grants for general support will be considered.
The Foundation prefers to receive one well-crafted and developed proposal per organization. However, up to four applications per organization may be submitted.
Submit the following items online by July 1, 2017:
The IRS letter of determination MUST be included. Upon review of your submission, BMCF may request additional information, including but not limited to financial statements, project budgets and a list of members of your governing board.
